Job overview
The role will predominantly be as part of the core team in our 28 bedded ward alongside the multidisciplinary team. The role will also incorporate women post delivery in a High Dependency environment within Delivery Suite.

The post holders will be supported to gain expertise in the care of women and babies. The post holder would also have the exciting opportunity to apply to commence a 2 year degree course to become a midwife, which we hope to commence is September 2025.
Main duties of the job
-
To lead on infection prevention and control, pressure area care, wound care and VTE assessment and compliance within acute maternity
- Work inline with NHSE 6 principles
- Service development and improving patient experience
- Patterns of shift work will be required to enable a twenty-four hour service.
- To maintain clinical competence and responsibility for professional development in all areas of nursing care to ensure continuing professional development meeting the standards set by the knowledge and skills framework in Band 6.
- To facilitate a conductive environment for all learners enabling staff to reach their full potential to enable career progression.
- To develop and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and attend meetings whist promoting a positive team spirit.
- Adhere to the NMC “The Midwives Rules and Standards” and “Code of Professional Conduct
- Complete the maternity staff nurse competency framework
- Display a willingness to extend skills to meet the needs of the service
- Ensure accurate verbal and written handovers using SBAR
- Have the ability, knowledge and skills to care for women and their families in the post natal period in areas of maternity.

Essential criteria
- 2 Years experience as a Band 5 or above
- Delivery of evidence based practice that demonstrates patient focused approach
- Knowledge of current local and national; midwifery agenda and priorities
Desirable criteria
- Mentorship qualifications
- Experience of service change/ change management or project management work
Skills
Essential criteria
- Works well under pressure
- competent in the use of IT and computer skills, word and report writing
- competent in the administration of Intravenous medication
- competent in the administration of oral medication
Desirable criteria
- Competent in cannulation and venepuncture
- evidence of experience in leading service in IPC, VTE wound management
Qualifications

- Registered adult nurse
