The Maternity Stop Smoking Advisor will provide stop smoking support to women and birthing people who are pregnant. The MSSA will be provided with training to carry out the role.
This band 3 role is based primarily in the community and outpatient clinics. The post holder will be required to have a driving licence and access to a car. The Midwife is ultimately responsible for the care of the mother and her new-born(s). The Maternity Stop Smoking Advisor (MSSA) works in collaboration with midwives and maternity support workers and reports to the Public Health Midwife. The post holder is expected to undertake a set of defined competencies, including the ‘Care Certificate’ within the first 3 months of being in post. Main duties of the job
- To provide continuous, consistent and evidence based stop smoking support to pregnant women and their partners.
- To assist, support and work in collaboration with the Midwife and the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide a safe and holistic approach to women centred care.

To support public health initiatives for women using the maternity services.
