NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery with the Isle of Wight NHS Trust. Applicants should be well trained in general ENT surgery and the successful candidate will have a special interest in paediatrics and will work in partnership with the team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU). The candidate would be supported to develop their own specialist interest and to develop services locally for the benefit of the Isle of Wight population. The post is 11 PAs consisting of clinics and theatre lists and a weekly attendance at PHU.
This is a replacement post for a retiring Consultant and would be ideal for someone to join the department with an innovative and enthusiastic personality to develop the service in partnership with local and PHU consultants. Hence, we are looking for someone who has good clinical experience, ideally with FRCS (ORL). You will help to lead an excellent multi-disciplinary team in a department that has a tradition for promoting innovation and development. We also encourage applicants that may have planned a post certification fellowship to hone their sub-specialist interest. Applicants who are not yet on the Specialist Register may also be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
- Work with colleagues to provide a Consultant led service with the highest standard of care.
- Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.
- Develop and maintain good working practices with wards, outpatients and the ED department.
- Provide on call cover (1:4).
- Work at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust during part of the week and collaborate with the PHU multi-disciplinary team.
- Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues, other departments and primary care on the IOW and in PHU.
- Offer educational, clinical support and leadership to nursing colleagues and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Ensure appropriate information is made available to staff to measure clinical performance and enable meaningful benchmarks to be established and evaluated within your area of responsibility.
- Ensure there is a robust process for reviewing the quality of services provided, explaining the causes of success and failure and ensure the highest standards are maintained.
- Provide a role model of professional leadership, which underpins the corporate values and behaviours of the organisation.
