evidence for clinical and managerial decision making whilst studying for a Diploma or Degree in Library and Information.
We are looking to support the development and education of an individual who has excellent interpersonal skills, a customer focused approach that shares our organisational values.
You will assist the Knowledge & Library Services Manager (KLSM) facilitate the use of knowledge and information services for staff and learners across the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust to support their work, research, and learning, ensuring all users have access to the right evidence, in the right place, at the right time.
You will have a minimum of a Level 3 (A-Level equivalent) qualification that meets the entry criteria to undertake an appropriate library qualification whilst developing into the role of a Clinical Outreach Librarian.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will assist the KLSM across both Isle of Wight and Portsmouth sites in providing, developing, and promoting library and
knowledge services in support of education and research, continuous professional development (CPD) and the practice of evidence-based clinical and managerial decision making.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Previous health information experience is not essential as all training on specialist resources, systems and software will be given. You will be selfdirected, motivated, with a desire to help and support people to learn and develop. You will work primarily within the Library and Learning
Resource areas based at St Mary’s Hospital with some requirements to travel to other locality-based locations on the Island including QA Hospital in Portsmouth.
Course Fees will be provided, and a contribution will be available for travel/accommodation for the residential weeks. Study time will be provided for the residential components of the programme.
Subject to successfully completing the Diploma/Degree/Masters you will be eligible to apply for a post of Clinical Outreach Librarian.
To lead on the provision of the literature searching service, to promote and provide training in literature searching and use of electronic resources to all groups of staff and students.
To lead on provision of individualised current awareness and alerting services to regularly bring clinical and managerial staff the latest published information in their field to their desktops, through testing, developing, and evaluating the necessary tools and providing appropriate user training.
Specific responsibility to focus on proactively seeking out opportunities to engage with staff in their workplaces to motivate and enable them to
access the evidence-base at the point of need in support of clinical decision-making, using primary and secondary sources available through the Knowledge and Library Services Hub, clinical and management bibliographic databases (e.g. Medline, HMIC) and specialist websites.
To assist with formalised gathering of user feedback to inform effective decision-making for provision of a portfolio of library and information
resources equitable for all staff groups and within the budget available.
To catalogue new resources to local network standards using the Wessex Classification Scheme.
To cover the main library enquiry desk in the absence of the Library Assistant and deputise for the Knowledge & Library Services Manager as
necessary.

Qualifications and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- GCSE’s minimum Grade C/4
- Level 3 Qualification in a relevant subject e.g. A Levels in English Language, Literature, Digital/Information Technologies, BTEC National Diploma
- Professionalism and self-direction and motivation; ability to prioritise under pressure
- Team worker with flexible approach
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
