NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

We are recruiting for a Consultant Microbiologist who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards “great people, great place”.

This post is a replacement post forming a team of two Consultant Microbiologists. This is a full-time position, on a contract of 10 PAs. However, the Trust is happy to consider flexible working in support of work life balance. Extended days, compressed hours and part time working may be considered. If a person is appointed on a part-time or job-share basis the job plan will be modified during discussions with the appointee.

The Microbiology department is accredited under UKAS ISO 15189.

The trust offers a 10K Recruitment and Retention premium.

Main duties of the job

This full-time post is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious consultant to take on a leadership role in a uniquely configured NHS Trust. We are seeking a full time Consultant Medical Microbiologist / Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead to join our established and enthusiastic team in providing a high-quality general microbiology department.

The post holder will participate in shared on call rota for Isle of Wight NHS Trust and Portsmouth University Hospitals Trust. This includes telephone cover and results authorisation (can be performed remotely) at weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

The content of this Job Description represents an outline of the post only and is therefore not a precise indication of duties and responsibilities. The Job Description is therefore intended to be flexible and will be subject to review and amendment in the light of changing circumstances, following consultation with the post holder.

A successful candidate may have, or may wish to, develop special professional interests and this is encouraged provided it complements and enhances the overall work of the department. The post-holder will be encouraged to develop academic and educational links with colleagues in nearby mainland Trusts.

Compliance with the requirements of good clinical governance and any new national arrangements for medical recertification/revalidation will be expected.

Working for our organisation

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. We serve a population of approximately 150,000 residents, making the services we offer variable and personalised with a flexible approach to our service users.

Working for our Trust brings a variety of benefits, including an onsite day nursery, cycle-to-work scheme, discounts at local businesses and gyms, and the opportunity to hire Trust’s beach hut in Ryde. We offer many flexible working opportunities, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement for you and if it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

The Isle of Wight is a unique and stunning gem located off the South Coast of England, a short ferry journey from Portsmouth and Southampton, with journey times taking from as little as 10 minutes. London can be reached in 90 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth. The island offers an amazing coastline with beautiful countryside, year-round events, festivals and award-winning attractions.

Our 2020-2025 strategy sets out to ensure that we continue to be a provider of excellent and compassionate care. As part of this strategy, we are proactively taking steps to ensure that we recruit and retain the highest quality of talent to provide CARE and we would welcome applications from under-represented groups to ensure our Trust is an inclusive and diverse employer.
