Job overview

The Interim MDO Manager Job Planning Lead post sits within the MDO Office and offers an opportunity to join a strong and friendly team during a period of maternity leave. 

The postholder will work alongside the MDO Manager - Medical Appraisal & Revalidation Lead to provide support to the Chief Medical Officer in carrying out their Responsible Officer role.

Main duties of the job

Manage consultant job planning across the Trust.

Operate job planning within an annual planning cycle.

Maintain and implement appropriate validation protocols.

Administer the job plan appeal process.

Lead on job planning training.

Provide regular performance reports at a local and national level and lead on job planning at internal performance meetings.

Manage the online support tool.

Support the production of the annual Board Assurance Framework for seven day clinical standards.

The post holder will also:

Provide short term cover for medical appraisal and revalidation when necessary.

Facilitate requests from the GMC regarding Fitness to Practice referrals.

Administer ad hoc meetings as requested.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The consultant job plan has been in use since 1991 and forms a fundamental part of the 2003 consultant contract.  There are approx. 360 consultants and SAS doctors at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust and each is required to produce a job plan annually.

As a minimum, job plans must set out a weekly timetable indicating when doctors are undertaking specific activities both for the Trust and within a private capacity.

The post holder will manage consultant job planning including the submission and validation of job plans, refining and implementing governance processes for job planning and reporting on job planning performance (including to external bodies).

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Project management training
  • Core management skills training

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Firm understanding of the consultant job planning process, aims and challenges
  • Understanding of the ten 7 day working clinical standards and the overarching ambitions for 7 day services.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Microsoft packages including database management
  • High levels of competency in English and in particular mathematics and data management
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of contract management
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the consultant contract

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Project Management Experience
  • Experience of working with senior staff on a day to day basis
  • Training in a workshop environment and on a one to one basis
  • Experience of organising training workshops or similar events
  • Experience of working with regulatory agencies
  • Performance reporting to committee level
  • Producing service plans Identifying risk and establishing quality assurance processes to mitigate
  • Undertaking audits and interpreting findings
  • Updating and implementing policies
  • Experience of working with job planning or rostering processes and identifying gaps in the workforce
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing an audit
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Contract Management experience
