The successful applicant for this clinical post will be mainly based at WGH. They will work with the cardiology consultant body to provide a highly effective cardiology service for patients, local general medical practitioners, and hospital colleagues. In-patient cardiology services are based on the acute site at Watford General Hospital. Patients with a primary cardiology condition are admitted under the direct care of the Cardiology team.  The appointee will be expected to work independently and closely with colleagues in the Acute Assessment Unit, Emergency Department and Ambulatory care to support and further develop the frontline service within the Trust.  It is anticipated that the post holder will additionally offer out-patient “hot” clinics during the week to support early discharges/urgent referrals. One of these clinics may be posted at Hemel Hempstead as one of our satellite clinics.

The post includes dedicated time to contribute towards frontline care., including AAU and Emergency Department post take/ward rounds as well as help cover our Virtual Heart Failure ward.  Time will also be given to triage A&E discharges into clinics by the electronic Urgent Care Review initiative (currently under development).  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this developing project and in line with the cardiology GIRFT recommendations this may entail participation in an emergency on-call rota, tbc.

There is also dedicated time to subspecialty interest.  Heart Failure and imaging are preferred but depending on the candidate’s needs and skillset we would be willing to consider supporting other interests
