Applications are invited for the post of Locum Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with Specialist Interest in Hip Surgery. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation.

This post is an important part of our ongoing development of Trauma and Orthopaedic services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and is part of an expansion to meet the rising demand and complexity of orthopaedic trauma and hip surgery in our area. Applicants should possess expertise in general orthopaedic trauma and all aspects of hip surgery.

Main duties of the job
It is expected that the successful candidate will have a job plan comprising both fixed clinical and flexible theatre sessions agreed in advance. The successful candidate would be expected to work with the existing substantive Consultants to provide a high quality service at the Trust.

- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
- Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- FRCS Tr&Orth or qualification of an equivalent level
- Higher Trauma and Orthopaedic (or equivalent) training
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent) related to Orthopaedics (eg Masters / MD / MRes / PhD etc)
- Fellowship training in Hip Surgery
- Trauma Fellowship
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience in Trauma and Orthopaedics
- Proficient in management and treatment of complex peri-prosthetic hip trauma
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Evidence of leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
- Published papers and original work in peer reviewed journals
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrable experience and active participation in research and development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of Orthopaedic Trauma in a UK Major Trauma Centre
- Demonstrable Orthopaedic Trauma experience in a Locum Consultant or Consultant role
- Demonstrable Hip Surgery experience in a Locum Consultant or Consultant role
