Job overview
We are recruiting for a Named Safeguarding Midwife who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
This is an excellent opportunity to join the safeguarding team within the Trust. You will be a fundamental part of the safeguarding team and work closely with the maternity division to ensure that the safeguarding remains at the heart of practice within Midwifery.

Main duties of the job
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the safety and welfare of all pregnant women and their babies in receipt of care within East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust services. In order to undertake this, the post holder will manage and lead the safeguarding midwifery team, and will contribute to delivering the wider safeguarding services.
You will be responsible for offering expert advice and guidance to staff in all matters relating to maternity safeguarding and to ensure that we develop a confident and competent workforce that is able to recognise and appropriately respond to any safeguarding concerns.
Working closely with the wider safeguarding team you will continually improve and develop the safeguarding agenda, aligning with the Trust’s strategic agenda, as well as local and national safeguarding priorities and guidance. Providing effective communication, networking and liaison, establishing and maintaining good working relationships within health services and other agencies to ensure that information relating to safeguarding is up to date and embedded in practice.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- 1st level registered midwife with extensive experience within an acute or community setting
- Evidence of post registration CPD in relation to safeguarding, including law, policy and practice
- Supervisory qualification or equivalent
- Leadership or management module
- Evidence of professional continuous development and portfolio of learning
- Willingness and ability to work towards masters qualification or equivalent
- Masters level qualifications relevant to safeguarding or equivalent CPD evidence
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification
Previous Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience of working within midwifery services both acute and community setting
- Significant experience in working within the safeguarding arena
- Evidence of leading service change
- Managing and/or leading a team
- Knowledge and experience in development of policies, procedures and standards
- Vast experience in delivering safeguarding supervision
- Evidence to and contribution to local multiagency groups, systems and networks
- Evidence of delivering safeguarding training
- Experience of working under pressure and to deadlines
- Experience of supporting service change
- Experience of interagency working
- Expert knowledge of legislation relevant to safeguarding – including information sharing
- Knowledge of statutory and voluntary organisations
- Experience of undertaking audit, and development of practice
- Knowledge of the current Government guidelines relating to Child Protection work
- Awareness of recent research and developments relating to Child protection work and its implications for practice
