This post is an important part of our ongoing development of medical services at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, offering the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with the existing Neurologists to provide a high standard of care across the Trust. We are seeking consultants with enthusiasm, commitment, and drive to work closely with colleagues throughout the organisation and within the community to help lead the organisation. This is a full-time locum consultant post fixed term for 12 months.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will provide services in Neurology in conjunction with eight other consultant neurologists, two consultant neurophysiologists, two neurology registrars and 4 specialist nurses.
A sub-specialty interest within neurology to compliment those of the department is desirable.
The clinical role incorporates outpatient neurology clinics and inpatient ward referrals.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in clinical governance activity and continuing medical education sessions.
Neuro-radiology meetings occur weekly. A neurology team meeting is held once a month.
There is full secretarial support with an administration team consisting of a Speciality Service Co-Ordinator (Neurology and Neurophysiology) and secretarial support staff on all hospital sites. Each Consultant has dedicated office space and IT.

Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of experience in Neurology and experience in General Medicine
- Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
- Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
- Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a Locum Consultant role for at least 6 months
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
- Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
- College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
- Advanced Life Support or demonstration of ability to achieve ALS immediately upon appointment
Desirable criteria
- Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)
- Royal College Fellowship
