Job overview

We are recruiting for a Diabetes Co-ordinator Midwife who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

We are seeking a  Senior Midwife who is dynamic and experienced in coordinating high standards of care for patients whose pregnancies are affected by Diabetes.

The Diabetes in Pregnancy team undertakes the management of screening for Diabetes in pregnancy for around 2000 patients/year and provides care to around 700 newly diagnosed and pre- existing diabetic patients.

Antenatal care for diabetic patients is provided across 2 of our hospital sites and in some circumstances virtually via a Digital consultation platform.

In addition to ensuring that patients receive the right care according to individualised care plans and diabetes pathways the Diabetes coordinator will manage and lead the diabetes team to deliver on national, regional and local priorities that are key to the management and prevention of Diabetes.

Main duties of the job

You will coordinate the delivery and development of the specialist Diabetes in pregnancy service using effective evidence-based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and monitoring aligned with Maternity agendas.

Undertake training to support the Diabetes in Pregnancy team clinically.

Be a port of call for all members of the workforce in relation the Diabetes service.

Advise, support and supervise the Diabetes in Pregnancy Team and provide knowledge of Diabetes pathways and processes to other members of the Maternity workforce.

Liaise effectively with the medical and nursing staff from the General Diabetes Team.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
  • Recent evidence of relevant Diabetes course completed or commenced.
  • Leadership course or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training
  • To have completed a recognised University module in diabetes – Level 7, Masters or equivalent Management course

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of care delivery across MDTs and complex pathways
  • Significant ANC experience at both management and clinical level
  • Knowledge of current screening processes for Diabetes and diagnostic values
  • Knowledge of hypo/ hyper glycaemia and treatment options.
  • Knowledge of Nice Guideline (2015) Diabetes in Pregnancy
  • Knowledge of all diabetes related local policies.
  • Experience of designing and delivering teaching
  • Experience of leading a team Experience of case loading care for a cohort of patients
  • Evidence of practice development
  • Experience of identifying and managing safeguarding issues
  • Experience of remote consultation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with the Diabetes Team
  • Knowledge of current Diabetes technology and virtual systems

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills
  • A thorough understanding of Diabetes in pregnancy and risks
