We are recruiting for a Capital Accountant who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Financial Accounts team are recruiting for an ambitious, motivated, and enthusiastic individual as Capital Accountant to support our department and our key operational and clinical stakeholders to help deliver the best care for our patients.
Ideally we are looking for someone with knowledge and experience of Capital Accounting within the NHS. You will have a proven ability to build effective relationships and communicate complex financial information to support stakeholders in making key decisions. You will need to also have excellent analytical skills and be able to manipulate large amounts of data, work diligently and accurately, and be able to draw inferences and present findings from analysis of financial and non-financial information.

Main duties of the job
Communicate with budget holders, other Finance staff and external customers may be by face-to-face meetings, by meetings on Microsoft Teams, by email, by telephone as appropriate.
Provide support in the annual planning cycle with regard to capital expenditure. This includes liaising with senior stakeholders in the agreement of planning timetables and ensuring the required
documentation is completed and information is correctly analysed to facilitate various scenarios for proposed plans. This will require a key understanding of funding streams and sources for capital
expenditure within the NHS.
Support in providing first line Capital Management support to Senior Non Finance staff on all Capital VAT matters including distribution of updates issued by Revenue and Customs and the Trust’s external advisors and internally generated explanatory notes.
Support in managing the Trust’s annual valuation of its assets in accordance with external requirements including liaison with external valuers and auditors.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- A level or equivalent.
- Completed AAT Technician Stage or have equivalent experience.
Desirable criteria
- Studying towards a CCAB qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in a financial environment , preferably Management Accounts
Desirable criteria
- Experience of NHS Financial environment.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Excel, Word and large general ledger systems
- Ability to apply knowledge to workload and demonstrate analytical skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using the Oracle accounting system.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of capital accounting and management accounting.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of NHS finance issues
Other Requirements
Essential criteria
- Good communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to prioritise workload and to work on own initiative as well as under the direction of Assistant Finance Manager.
