We are recruiting for a Technical Accountant who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The Financial Accounts team are recruiting for an ambitious, motivated, and enthusiastic individual as Technical Accountant to support our department and our key operational and clinical stakeholders to help deliver the best care for our patients.
The Technical Accountant will report directly to the Deputy Financial Controller and will support on providing technical advice on complex accounting issues. Acting as technical support for the Trust, the role will focus on analysing and advising on disclosure and accounting requirements emerging from new accounting standards, managing the Trusts capital program including IFRS 16 leases and internal and external reporting such as the monthly PFR return.

Main duties of the job
You will support in the provision of specialist financial and technical advice and information through the Deputy Financial Controller.
Support the Deputy Financial Controller with technical analysis, briefings and procedure guides on all key aspects of the financial reporting and financial control duties of the department, including areas such as ensuring that the Trust meets its statutory financial targets and support production of the Trust Financial Statements in line with International Financial Reporting Standards and regulations appropriate to the public sector and the NHS in particular.
You will be responsible for supporting the monthly completion of internal and external reporting including the monthly PFR return to NHS England
You will line manage one member of staff supporting the transactional accounting of the capital program.
You will manage the Trusts capital program ensuring adherence to the CDEL limit and manage the Trusts IFRS 16 leases and the ensuring the correct accounting.

Qualifications/Training
Essential criteria
- • Studying towards CCAB/CIMA qualification or have equivalent experience in a degree in a relevant subject
Desirable criteria
- • Attained CCAB/CIMA qualification or have equivalent experience in a degree in a relevant subject
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience in all aspects of financial reporting, planning and control.
- Significant experience of working to tight reporting deadlines.
- Experience of supervising staff
Desirable criteria
- NHS financial experience
Skills
Essential criteria
- Experienced user of computer applications with a good working knowledge of Excel, Word, email and large general ledger systems.
- Ability to apply knowledge to workload and demonstrate analytical skills.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of developing reporting packages, i.e Qlikview
- Experience of Oracle/CARS asset software
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of management accounting and capital issues to include budgetary control and costing techniques.
Other Requirements

- Good communication skills, both written and oral to non-financial managers.
- Ability to prioritise workload and supervise a small team.
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as under the direction of Finance Manager.
