Job overview
We are recruiting for an Equipment Library Assistant who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
You will be responsible for achieving high efficiency in day to day operation of equipment library. You will be expected to have office skills with a customer service mindset and attention to details to be successful in this position.

Main duties of the job
• Deliver medical equipment to various wards departments as requested
• Collect equipment from different wards on a daily basis
• Maintain accurate records of equipment availability, usage and locations using the data base
• Ensure that all equipment are clean and ready for use in the library
• Maintain minimum levels of stock in the equipment library
• Record and monitor transactions of equipment from the library
• Respond to inquiries and requests from healthcare staff regarding equipment availability
• Adhere to trust policies and NHS guidelines
• Report equipment faults, damages or discrepancies to appropriate personnel for further actions
• Work Closely with different teams for efficient and effective service delivery
• Support in Periodic quality audits for stock
• Identify equipment held by the Medical Equipment Library by sight, name, type and by the common or ‘nick name’ given by the User areas,
• Plan and prioritise workload according to the Library job sheets, adjusting priorities over the day depending on availability of equipment and requests made. Inform line manager if unable to prioritise without compromising the MEL service.
• Operate the equipment database E quip including booking equipment in and out, searching the database and processing and printing reports using Excel

Qualifications / Training
Essential criteria
- Educated to GCSE with various further relevant knowledge of medical devices and systems preferred
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of providing front line customer service
- Experience in using safety testers, calibration and other test equipment
- Keyboard skills
- Experience of working within a Quality Management System
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in a clinical environment, taking account of patient safety, dignity and infection prevention
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to use MS Windows and Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.); to manage files and set up documents and spreadsheets.
- Ability to use computerized equipment management database system
- Ability to gather and analyze data and make judgements
- Good organizational, prioritization and time management skills – to manage own work area and work load
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent customer relations and interpersonal skill
- Ability to adapt to continuously improving systems of working

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and understanding of the risks to patients and staff arising from the use of a range of medical equipment
- Able to provide advice, instruction and training to small groups of staff on areas relating to areas of own responsibility of work
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
