Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Cardiology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The successful candidate will join a service that prides itself in effective leadership, innovative thinking, and excellent teamwork. This is a substantive appointment, based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage but with clinical outpatient activity at other sites. The Lister Hospital enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge and the Trust has a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care, but also for our friendly and supportive approach.

The Trust has a comprehensive programme of leadership mentoring available for newly qualified Consultants. Opportunities are also available to other Consultant appointees to play an active part in the programme.

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected to be actively involved in the Heart Failure Service at East and North Herts NHS Trust and will take a lead role in developing links with the community heart function service and integrated heart function service currently being commissioned and work closely with the Heart Failure hospital at Home Service. In addition, they are expected to contribute to the cardiac imaging service and extensive experience in CMR and complex echo is expected. They will also contribute towards the general cardiology service at the Lister, including participation in the Cardiologist of the week rota which includes weekend cardiology ward rounds.

  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care

Person specification

Qualifications / Training

Essential criteria
  • ntry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC confirmed eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCP or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Advanced Life Support
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate degree (or equivalent)

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience in cardiology
  • Experience in Heart Failure
  • Level 2 accreditation in cardiac MRI
  • Experience in complex echo
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable experience in a Locum Consultant role

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
