Clinical Nurse Specialist in Uro-gynaecology

A part-time position has become available in the Uro-gynaecology Team based St Alban’s City Hospital.  The post holder will run nurse-led clinics providing treatment for patients undergoing a variety of uro-gynaecology tests and procedures.

They will deliver an expert nursing service within Urogynaecology, providing a variety of nurse led clinics including Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS), vaginal pessary fitting for new and follow up patients, complex TWOC, bladder installation, medication reviews, patient education, catheter care & urodynamic diagnostic clinics.  The service receives referrals from a variety of settings many of which are complex patients.

This post if for 30hrs per week and the shift pattern will be any times between Monday to Friday 07:30 to 18:00hrs, depending on the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a sound knowledge of the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) accreditation agenda and be actively involved in maintaining accreditation at WHTH.

The post holder will be flexible in their working practice and support any necessary changes to develop and improve the urogynaecology services at WHTH.

 The post holder will nurture an honest, open and transparent working culture supporting learners, junior staff and new starters by providing specialist knowledge and support in all aspects of urogynaecology procedures/clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  •  To work as clinical nurse specialist to effectively deliver an expert nursing service within Urogynaecology.
  • To undertake specialist nursing assessment, examination and manage the treatment plan of women attending the dept.
  • To provide specialist nurse led clinics to manage all referrals including complex Urogynaecology patients.
  • To support any necessary changes to develop and improve the urogynaecology services.
  • To participate in the recruitment of staff and contribute to their continuing development, safe practice and adherence to national, local and Trust protocols and guidelines.
  • To participate in research and audit.
  • The post-holder has a sound knowledge in the field of urogynaecology.

·         To assist the senior management team to develop new ways of managing the ever-increasing caseload in Urogynaecology.

  • To provide a variety of urogynaecology nurse led clinics including Peripheral Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS), vaginal pessary fitting for new and follow up patients, complex TWOC, bladder installation, medication reviews, patient education, catheter care & urodynamic diagnostic clinics.
  • To provide specialist advice and support the teaching of new and/or junior nursing and medical staff in all aspects of urogynaecology procedures/clinics. 
  • Contribute to the department’s compliance with the criteria for British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG) accreditation.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Current NMC registration.
  • • BSc (Hons) in Nursing or Health Studies.
  • • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • • Recognised urology/continence or willingness to undertake.
Desirable criteria
  • • NMP qualification
  • • Leadership qualification
  • • Mentorship/Teaching qualification
  • • Post grad Urogynaecology qualification.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Proven clinical judgement and decision-making skills
  • • Ability to analyse and communicate data in written reports.
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of service development and ability to implement change
  • • Advanced physical assessment course in pessary fitting.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Comprehensive experience in Urogynaecology, gynaecology, urology or continence nursing.
  • • Experience working with PGDs.
  • • Evidence of teaching experience & delivering presentations.
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of clinical governance and risk management
  • • Advanced physical assessment course in pessary fitting.
