Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced NMC registered nurse to join the infection prevention & control team at Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust.

This part-time role (22.5 hours/ WTE 0.6) will be based at Kingfisher Court, Forest Lane, Radlett, Hertfordshire, WD7 9FB and there will be an expectation to travel to other sites within the trust as required.

Working closely with other members of the team, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering a high-quality IPC service to staff and service users and should demonstrate excellent communication skills.

As a key member of the team, you should demonstrate the ability to show initiative and flexibility in answering queries/incidents from both staff, service users and external organisations as required.

You will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills and have an approachable manner. Experience of leading a team and effecting change in practice using behaviour change theory through education, feedback, audits and sharing learning from incidents.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:
- Be an integral member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, working closely with the Consultant Nurse Infection Prevention and Control (CN IPC), to provide an efficient and effective service to all areas across the organisation.
- Provide highly developed specialist advice and information relating to infection prevention and control across the range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience.
- Lead in the development, delivery, planning and organisation of the infection control educational programme sessions and evaluate training and teaching provided.

- Lead in the organisation, planning and coordinate infection control practice audits and write the necessary reports and provide feedback.
- Empower all Trust staff to assist in the prevention and control of infection
- Deliver Trust targets associated with maintaining and reducing healthcare associated infections including monitoring surveillance and analysis of infection data
- Act as a role model in providing a visible presence within the clinical area and as an educator, ensuing that the environment and clinical practice comply with the Health and Social Care Act – Code of Practice (2022) and updates
- Assist the NC IPC in reviewing and implementing policies, protocols and strategies to effectively manage infection prevention and control in HPFT.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN/RNLD)
  • Degree level education in health related subject
  • Recognised post registration qualification in Infection Prevention and Control (Degree/Diploma qualification)
  • Evidence of consistent professional and education development at an advanced level
  • E.N.B 998 or equivalent (Relevant teaching qualification)
  • Additional areas of training through short courses
  • Membership of professional bodies
Desirable criteria
  • Master (or working towards a Masters)

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in the specialist field of IPC (equivalent to masters/degree/post graduate diploma
  • Experience of managing change
  • Experience in clinical audit
  • Experience in policy development
  • Teaching experience
