Job overview

We are recruiting for a Clinical Support Worker Higher/ Phlebotomist  who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

This is a permanent post at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre phlebotomy unit. The unit is open from 08:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday and provides a dedicated ‘walk in’ service for all cancer centre outpatients who require blood tests. It also provides a service for in-patient early morning routine blood tests on the ward. 

Phlebotomist supported by Cancer Centre nursing team are to set and maintain high standards and best practice in patient care, vascular access, and blood sample collection.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate should be an experienced CSW with excellent venepuncture skills.

The role will involve working in the phlebotomy day unit alongside supporting the ward and radiotherapy outpatient clinical areas.

Working closely with the vascular access team and outpatients unit, there will also be the opportunity to for the successful candidate to extend and develop skills in the care and management of central lines (PICCs & ports).

Supporting the manager in the planning and development of the service in accordance with quality standards, national guidelines and the need of the local health economy.

To work across the phlebotomy day unit, on the cancer centre wards and outpatient day units

ENHT is seeking to maintain and expand the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre staff as we move to an exciting new future.

In addition, you will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,134 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • Qualifications / Training GSCE in Maths, English and Science or equivalent
  • Trained phlebotomist
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical support worker
  • ECDL

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Phlebotomy
Desirable criteria
  • Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
  • Stock management experience
  • Experience of motivating others to achieve a shared goal

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the circulatory and respiratory systems
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Display and demonstrate knowledge and understanding up to or equivalent to, NVQ level 3 or other locally assessed and competency based National Standard
