Job overview

We are recruiting for a Prehabilitation AHP Assistant Practitioner  who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This new Cancer Alliance funded position aims to improve the delivery of prehabilitation at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC), alongside a Prehabilitation Dietitian and Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist. This is an exciting new position for someone who enjoys working in a team, is flexible and hardworking, and is keen to be part of a new AHP-service which aims to best prepare patients for their upcoming cancer treatment. 

The post holder will also be joining an established team of AHPs (Allied Health Professionals) and AHP Assistants. 

This is a full time, 10 Months fixed term post, with the potential for substantive funding in future. Part time hours will also be considered. Potential secondment for internal candidates.

Main duties of the job

Providing high quality care of patients across MVCC, predominantly within prehabilitation.

Undertaking all clinical duties independently, whilst being supported through regular informal and formal supervision. 

Completing routine assessment and treatment of patients with a cancer diagnosis, across the AHP-disciplines. This will include signposting, onward referral and leading educational sessions.  

Working closely with all members of the AHP Service, wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and external agencies to optimise patient care and experience.

Supporting the AHP Team with non-clinical tasks, such as managing patient appointments, assisting with data collection and general administrative duties. 

Contributing to AHP education, including presenting at induction programmes and in-service training.

ENHT is seeking to maintain and expand the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre staff as we move to an exciting new future.

In addition, you will receive a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a Healthcare Setting
  • Experience of Multi-Disciplinary Team working
  • Experience of working directly with patients providing care or treatment interventions
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to clinical area
  • Knowledge of Moving and Handling guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working at Band 3 / 4 level within the NHS
  • Experience completing administrative tasks
  • Previous experience working within Oncology

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clear and effective communication to patients, carers and staff
  • Flexible and able to respond well to change
  • Able to manage time effectively
  • Ability to prioritise own workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Information Technology skills including: E-mail, Word, Excel & Power Point
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (including typed and written).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience using IT systems such as Lorenzo and ICE
  • Group presentation to staff and/or patients

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE level passes at C or above, including English and mathematics (or equivalent).
  • NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care (or equivalent)
