Job overview

We are recruiting for a Senior Pharmacy Technician who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

The role is ideal for newly qualified accuracy checking technicians who want to work in a busy and dynamic hospital pharmacy. Applicants with a retail pharmacy background are welcome to apply for this post as on the job training will be provided for all aspects of the role.

Any new qualified technicians without an Accuracy Checking qualification will be considered for this post and a Band 4 to Band 5 developmental plan will be offered.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the development, configuration, testing, implementation, monitoring and on-going management of the Electronic Prescribing (EP) System and other digital systems which support Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) prescribing.

Main duties of the job

To support the development, configuration, testing, implementation, monitoring and on-going management of the Electronic Prescribing (EP) System and other digital systems which support Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) prescribing.

Be a champion user of the EP system, with an extensive knowledge and understanding of how the system works and understand the workflow that staff need to follow to ensure safety.

Provide help desk support in resolving any pharmacy, nursing, or prescribing related queries that are generated from system users.
Assist Advanced Pharmacist Electronic Prescribing in the Development of new SOP’s and amend local policies and guidelines as necessary with a view to changing practice in relation to the EP systems.

To support in the development and implementation of contingency plans to ensure patient safety and service delivery are maintained during system downtime, or in the event of system failure, and that timely system recovery is facilitated.

Contribute to the development of training policies and procedures for the training of pharmacy and other staff in the use of the EP systems.
Responsible for the delivery of training programs.

To represent the interest of the EP projects at all times

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

ENHT is seeking to maintain and expand the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre staff as we move to an exciting new future.

In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,314 and a maximum payment of £5,436 per annum pro rata.

Previous Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Pharmacy services
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in working in oncology
  • Experience in using JAC dispensing system
  • Previous experience in working experience with electronic prescribing system
  • Experience as a trainer

Knowledge

  • Computer and IT literate
  • Need for confidentiality

  • Excellent clinical practice knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Writing and maintaining SOPS, reports and performing audits

Qualifications / Training

  • NVQ3 or BTEC Cert. In Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
  • Accredited Checking Technician (ACT)
