Job overview

We are recruiting for a Medical Secretary who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

A part of this role will also be responsible for 1 full time consultant support in all aspects of their neonatal and acute paediatrics role which includes part Acute Paediatrics Cardiology role and/or provide support for the consultants and admin team where a consultant is not allocated. 

You should have a sound knowledge of medical terminology and have the ability to work without direct supervision, be able to prioritise and manage workloads. The applicant must be computer literate.

You will be the first point of contact for GPs, consultant colleagues, nursing, admin and other hospital staff, patients, relatives, and outside agencies.  You will provide professional and efficient secretarial and administrative support to the consultants and medical team.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Secretary will be responsible for the admin and support of consultants as their medical secretary and provide input and support in team duties.  Cross cover is also required for the team.

You will have sufficient knowledge of Microsoft packages, have the ability to manage short turnaround deadlines and have good presentation as well as good verbal and written communication skills.

You will be the first point of contact and communication for  General Practitioners, consultant colleagues, nursing staff, administrative and other hospital staff, patients, relatives, and outside agencies. 

To help organise division specific clinics and liaise with outside agencies to achieve this.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to minimum GCSE level or equivalent at level C/6 and above - breakdown required
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing development
  • Previous medical secretary experience
  • Evidence of Microsoft Excel proficiency

Previous Experience

  • Demonstrable secretarial and administrative experience
  • Managing appointments and diaries
  • Handling telephone enquiries

  • NHS experience
