Job overview

We are recruiting for a Nurse Team Leader who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients. 

The post holder will work as an integral part of the multidisciplinary
management-clinical team in renal.

You will demonstrate expertise and leadership in the delivery of care to patients requiring Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) in the form of haemodialysis.

You  will be expected to rotate between the haemodialysis units as service needs dictate and to gain invaluable experience and to participate in the Renal On-call service as necessary.

Main duties of the job

This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to develop their existing leadership skills with the full support of the Senior Sister, the Matron and the wider management structure gaining the necessary experience to achieve success at this level and beyond in the future.

As the Sister / Charge Nurse you will be responsible for supporting the Senior Sister and the team to deliver exceptional standards of safe, effective care; monitoring and maintaining care to ensure that it consistently meets CQC standards.

You will need excellent organisational and communication skills, together with an intuitive, balanced and collective approach to leadership.

Promote high standards of professional practice and high quality care delivery within Trust and department policies, protocols and guidelines.

The nurse team leader will demonstrate expert clinical skills with specialised knowledge in caring for renal patients.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • First level nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register, educated to diploma level.
  • Relevant clinical post-registration education to include a recognised renal course and mentorship qualification.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to life long learning.
  • Evidence of leadership training / development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience caring for patients requiring renal nursing.
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement in audit / research and willingness to present findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Advanced skills in quality assurance of patient dialysis treatment.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively – excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Evidence of leadership and motivational skills, ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Demonstrates a flexible approach, able to react to the changing needs of the department.
  • Ability to use negotiating skills in a positive manner to influence change within the department.
  • Ability to liaise and work with the multidisciplinary team, making recommendations to enhance the smooth running and management of the unit.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to manage self and others in delivery of own work and related clinical outcomes to meet department expectations.
  • Understanding of scheduling and capacity.
  • Representing Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in their absence.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Has an understanding of managing a busy dialysis unit.
  • Awareness of current developments in pre and post registration nursing.
  • Understanding of risk management, health and safety and other clinical governance issues.
  • Knowledge of local and national health care initiatives / innovation to improve patient care, experience and safety.
Desirable criteria
  • Competent person (risk assessor)
  • Computer literate - relevant to renal department.
  • Understanding of expenditure and budget management.
