Do you want the chance to work as part of a dedicated and innovative MDT, where you will help to improve the lives and wellbeing of individuals with a Learning Disability?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an innovative and highly motivated Occupational Therapist to work within the Community Learning Disability Service to cover a period of Maternity leave. Within this role, you will have the chance to work as part of a dedicated and innovative MDT, where you will help to improve the lives and wellbeing of individuals with a Learning Disability.

Part time hours will be considered.

We are offering an exciting but rare opportunity for you to join the Bucks Community Learning Disability Health Team, where you will be able to use your core OT skills by promoting participation and independence in Activities of Daily living, whilst having the opportunity to strengthen and develop these in specialist areas such as Sensory Integration, Positive Behaviour Support and Equipment needs.

You will be joining a highly dedicated and creative Occupational Therapy service and will be encouraged and supported to undertake learning and development opportunities both in clinical and leadership fields.

The post will allow you to gain experience in a Specialist Learning Disability Service, where you will have the chance to work as part of a dedicated and innovative MDT - to help to improve the lives and wellbeing of individuals with a Learning Disability whilst.

We have a strong and varied in house training Programme and offer a number of Occupational Therapy specific Specialist Interest groups.

Due to this being a community post and much of the Occupational Therapy input taking place in individuals’ homes or day centres, access to your own transport  is essential.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

  • To manage a caseload of clients with complex OT needs, using evidence based/client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions in clinic and community settings and on home visits.
  • To apply knowledge of the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and other standardised assessment approaches relevant to the clinical setting.
  • Following assessment, to undertake case formulation in order to highlight occupational strengths and limitations and to inform the intervention plan moving forward. 
  • To work collaboratively with service users to identify OT goals as part of the overall recovery plan. 
  • To work effectively as a member of a team in providing an occupational therapy service to the designated area. 
  • To provide specialist Occupational Therapy advice, intervention and support given to service users and their carers.  
  • To provide timely feedback to the MDT information regarding the service users wellbeing and occupational performance.
  • To provide a detailed and specialist occupational therapy report when required, within designated clinical area. 
  • To use evidence-based practice to engage service users in meaningful and appropriate activities, to promote independence, recovery and well-being.
  • To have a senior oversight of the needs of the service user group and develop services accordingly. 
  • ·       To demonstrate and apply a specialist level of understanding of the effect of disability and recommend adaptations to the client’s physical and social environment.
  • To ensure that up to date written and electronic records and activity data are maintained in accordance with Professional and Trust standards.
  • To undertake risk assessments within clinical area as guided by local/Trust policies.

Qualifications/Education/Training

  • BSc/MSc/PG Dip Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC registration
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and associated packages.
  • Evidence of relevant post grad training.
  • Completion of preceptorship and/or evidence of having met the full KSF Gateway for Band 5 OT’s

  • Trusted Assessor training or equivalent experience
  • AMPS/ESI/SI training

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY

  • Experience of working with people with mental health problems/learning disability
  • Post registration experience in a relevant clinical setting
  • Experience of generic and specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and interventions.
  • Experience of assessing for specialist Equipment and adaptive aids.

  • Planning and co-ordination of treatment packages
  • Working alongside service users to support them in undertaking everyday tasks and activities that they have identified in their recovery plan.
