We have an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to train at the Pharmacy department at Wye Valley NHS Trust to become a registered Pharmacy Technician at the end of a two year training programme.
The successful post holder will develop knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a Level 3 qualification to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council. The post holder will follow a structured training programme at Wye Valley NHS Trust.
The post holder will complete competencies in the workplace and tutor led learning using allocated weekly study time and commit to study in personal time to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification.
To apply for the post you will require FOUR GCSE (Grade C/level 4 or above) or equivalent in the following subjects:
- Maths
- English Language
- Science or Double Science
Candidates holding a Pharmacy Services Skills Level 2 QCF Qualification (or equivalent) with 12 months current proven experience at Wye Valley NHS Trust and hold a functional skills level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Maths and English will be considered.

Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to achieve a Level 3 qualification in order to register as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). The post holder will followed a structured training programme hosted at Wye Valley NHS Trust (WVT).
The post holder will complete competencies in the workplace and tutor led learning using an allocated weekly study day and also commit to study in personal time to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification.
During the two-year training programme, the post holder will ensure the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours follow the GPhCs standards for pharmacy professionals to obtain a declaration of competence from supervising pharmacists or pharmacy technicians.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To participate in the Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician training in the two-year fixed term contract to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician qualification.
To rotate through each area of the Pharmacy Department including Dispensary, Procurement (ordering and receiving stock), Provision (ward top-ups), Technical Services (manufacturing aseptics products including chemotherapy), Medicines Optimisation (liasing with patients and supplying medication at ward level), and Medicines Safety (assisting with audit).
To learn about and contribute to the objectives for safe patient care.
To support team values to ensure the maintenance of the highest professional standards.
To follow Trust and Departmental SOPs at all times.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Ability to concentrate with attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to work to deadlines in a high pressure environment
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in dealing with the public and with challenging situations
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a dispensary setting either in community or hospital
Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths at grade C (level 4 or above), English and Science at C (level 4 or above) and 3 other subjects at GCSE level at a minimum of grade C (level 4) or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- Pharmacy Services Skills Level 2 QCF Qualification or equivalent
