Job overview

The highly regarded and forward-thinking radiology department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a breast imaging Radiologists in response to growing demand for our services. The role will involve exposure to our screening and symptomatic service.

We are seeking 1 radiologists.

The  role is based at in our Breast screening unit at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.  

We are in an exciting transition phase for the department as we continue  equipment replacement with DBT machines and department refurbishment.

 

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will a need to have experience in breast and general radiology and undertake a share  reporting depending on experience.  Successful candidates will be HHFT Consultants and may be asked to work at any of our sites (Basingstoke, Winchester or Andover). The precise details will be agreed in a job plan, and we are usually able to accommodate reasonable requests.

All Radiologists are very much encouraged to contribute to the running of the department. This is rewarded with SPA allocation that will be allocated according to the level of contribution. We have regular discrepancy (REALM) meetings, Consultant meetings and quarterly strategy meetings which are now largely online. 

 

Working for our organisation

Across HHFT we currently have 4 static mammo machines, 3 mobile breast screening vans, 5 static CT scanners and 3 static MRI scanners (details below).  This includes a private imaging facility on the Basingstoke site (Candover Clinic) which is part of the NHS trust and offers general X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Insignia PACS, CRIS and Talking point Voice Recognition are integrated across HHFT (PACS system undergoing replacement currently).  Home-reporting workstations are provided for all Consultant Radiologists to facilitate the on-call service, flexible reporting and additional voluntary reporting (‘insourcing’).

Professional qualifications

Essential criteria
  • FRCR (or equivalent)
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of CCT date at the time of the interview.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher qualification (MRCP or FRCS)
  • Relevant UK NHS experience

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Subspecialty radiology experience as required for each post
  • A solid background in general radiology and experience of reporting in plain films, ultrasound, CT and MRI
Desirable criteria
  • Fellowship training in subspecialty area

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Ability to supervise, cover and report on examinations carried out by radiographers and specialist registrars in radiology
  • Experience in conducting clinico-radiological meetings or MDTs
  • Willingness to use Voice Recognition systems
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to mentor and audit reporting radiographers
  • Ability to cross cover for colleagues at MDTs

Research & Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Willingness to participate in teaching to promote role expansion and skill mix among the radiographic staff
  • Willingness to teach medical students and junior medical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in teaching
  • Peer review publications

Other Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise
  • Ability to contribute to the running of the department
