Job overview

Sophie’s place is an acute assessment unit which provides a huge range of experiences for anyone wanting to continue developing their skills in caring for children. We are looking for a band 5 nurse to join our friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team. We are open to applications from experienced or newly qualified nurses who will be supported by an excellent regional paediatric preceptorship programme. 
Our primary role is in assessing and providing care to children and young people requiring acute assessment, within both the assessment unit (Sophie’s Place) and the Children's area of the Emergency Department. Additionally, we support the Children’s outpatient service and paediatric blood clinic, giving opportunities for ongoing development of clinical knowledge and skills. This is a varied and engaging role!

Main duties of the job

  • Facilitating the assessment and delivery of care to children and young people with a range of care needs within a 7 day a week service
  • Providing effective evidence-based care for children and young people with a range of care needs
  • Working closely with the Multidisciplinary Team 
  • Developing enhanced clinical skills such as paediatric venepuncture and cannulation 
  • Supporting the delivery of the children’s outpatient’s service
  • Working collaboratively with the Emergency Department to ensure that children and young people receive appropriate paediatric care within this environment

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Child Health Degree level education or equivalent knowledge and skills gained through any combination of alternative study, or employment experience
  • Professional UK registration e.g. RSCN , CH Dip
Desirable criteria
  • Degree or evidence of working towards a Degree in the relevant field.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD) clearly recorded for professional profile
  • Completed clinical placements in a variety of areas
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of staff supervision

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate the required behaviour in keeping with the Trust values
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal information in English, keeping legible and accurate notes
Desirable criteria
  • Customer service experience i.e. dealing with complaints

Other Specific Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Should be willing to work flexible hours on occasion and cross sites.
