Job overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us at our Taplins Nursery as a Kitchen Assistant.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

Are you an organised and proactive individual eager to make a real difference in a friendly and welcoming environment? If so, we are looking for an enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team!

At Taplins, we offer exceptional childcare for children aged 3 months to 5 years in our purpose-built nursery.  Taplins operates two purpose-built nurseries that support our local NHS staff. As part of the UHS family, you will enjoy numerous benefits, including a generous holiday allowance, closure on weekends and bank holidays, and access to our NHS discount scheme.

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will be integral to our two kitchens, preparing snacks, clearing and washing up after meals, and serving food provided by our caterers.

While previous experience is desirable, it is not essential, as we provide comprehensive training when you join our team. You will use our supply systems to order meals and provisions, working closely with our nursery teams to ensure the catering system runs smoothly and efficiently.

Our nurseries are open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 6:30 pm. The successful candidate will typically work shifts from 9:15 am to 5:15 pm and will have weekends and bank holidays off.

Join us and be part of a team that values your contribution and supports your growth. Apply now to make a positive impact in our nurturing community!

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
