Are you an experienced nurse looking for a new and challenging role? The Surgery Education and Practice Development Team at UHS have an opportunity for a highly motivated professional and well organised individual with the required skills and knowledge and passion for developing themselves and others to join the team as a Clinical Practice Educator.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Surgery Care Group is part of Division A at University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust. Within the care group we have 149 beds and 6 outpatient areas providing specialist care for both elective and emergency patients. Speciality areas include Head and Neck, Urology, Upper GI , Lower GI, Hepatopancreatic and Biliary surgery, Intestinal failure and General surgery.  The Successful candidate will join the Surgery Education and Practice Development team to deliver education, supporting staff and learners to provide the high level of care our patients require.

 Specific to this role is the suitability for agile working which is a mixture of on-site and remote working. In addition, we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service.

You will work clinically within our Surgical Care group alongside new and existing nursing staff, healthcare support workers, students and apprentices to support them to deliver safe quality care.
You will provide support within the wider practice education team delivering face to face training for support workers, internationally educated nurses and newly registered professionals.
You will assist and support the continuing education, training, and professional development of staff, promoting the acquisition of new skills and knowledge.
Develop and deliver local and Trust wide education and training in response to clinical need.
Evaluated the impact of training and training programmes

We are looking for  - a registered nurse with experience in the acute care setting.
Someone with strong effective communication and interpersonal skills, who can motivate themselves and others.
An individual with a passion for education and learning who can demonstrate enthusiasm about personal professional development.
You will need to manage your own workload, be capable of working independently but also as part of a wider team.
You will have experience of assessing students in practice.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Professional requirements e.g. Registered Nurse or Registered Professional or Non-registered support worker etc
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience
  • Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Significant experience within relevant field
  • Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting
  • Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures
Desirable criteria
  • Education at a master's degree level
  • Further education at a master's degree level in relevant practice area
