Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Digital Clinical Support Worker to join the Gastroenterology Specialist team.  This is a fantastic opportunity to join a regional and nationally recognised team leading the way in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) which is enthusiastic and dedicated in providing high quality patient centred care.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in developing new ways of working, excellent communication and IT skills and the ability to work well under pressure while paying close attention to detail.  You should be able to work independently, under the guidance and supervision of the IBD MDT, to support excellent patient care. This could include, but not be limited to, supported self management, patient initiated follow-up pathway for outpatients, assessment services, peri-operative medicine and virtual wards. 

The ability to work well within a team is essential as the successful candidate will work alongside a hard working team of IBD Specialist Nurses, clinicians, pharmacists and research and development teams.  

This role will be based at Southampton General Hospital and the working hours will be between core hours of 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday.

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • NVQ or apprenticeship Level 3 in Health or equivalent experience
  • Numeracy skills and Literacy skills at level 2 (or equivalent).
Desirable criteria
  • Keyboard skills
  • IT literate
  • Proficient in use of Hospital systems
  • Experienced and competent in additional clinical skills, as per job description.

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience in a caring role.
  • Understanding of acute hospital environment and the role of SHCA.
  • Previous experience of working with the general public.
  • Experience of using a computer.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with diverse audiences (eg. volunteers, patients and/or community groups)
  • Previous HCA experience.
