Main duties of the job

The aim of this post is to appoint a subspecialist consultant in Reproductive Medicine to join an established team within a major university teaching hospital.

Complete Fertility clinic maintains its close affiliation to the University of Southampton, and UHS. Under formalized mutual agreement between UHS and CFC, students (medical, nursing and midwifery) and trainees (Wessex obstetrics and gynaecology, ATSM and subspecialty) continue their fertility and reproductive medicine training between both locations. 

Complete Fertility currently performs around 550 fresh cycle of IVF/ICSI, and around 180 IUI/DI cycles and 400 frozen cycle numbers per year. It has a full IVF laboratory with time-lapse facilities. The centre treats both NHS and private patients in a ratio of approximately 30:70 respectively. The centre receives over 1500 NHS referrals from GPs in Hampshire per year.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsibilities 

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

·     To drive forward further development and aspirations of the fertility service including reproductive surgery

·     Provision of general and specialist gynaecology clinics

·     To participate in the provision of emergency gynaecological services to the local population via participation in the general gynaecological on call rota

·     To actively participate in management, service development and clinical governance within the Care group and wider Trust

·     Contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate education and supervision including ATSM training in fertility, and subspecialty training programme in reproductive medicine

·     To actively support and engage with ongoing research themes and projects in line with the expectations of a vibrant academic hospital

·     To actively participate in continuing medical education to maintain annual consultant appraisal

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

·       A subspecialist in reproductive medicine

·       Experience in conducting reproductive medicine operating lists independently

·       Experience in delivering reproductive medicine procedures, outpatient gynaecology and ambulatory gynaecology clinics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • Entry on the Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the advisory appointments committee
  • Subspecialist in reproductive medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited GMC educational supervisor
  • Further higher degree
  • Evidence of research and publications
  • MD/PhD

Previous or relevant experience

Essential criteria
  • Accreditation in reproductive medicine
  • Accreditation in general obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Experience in conducting reproductive medicine operating lists independently
  • Experience in delivering out-patient ambulatory and emergency gynaecology services
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in delivering formal undergraduate and/or postgraduate education
  • Experience in running subspeciality training module
  • Involved with RCOG subspeciality committee

Aptitudes and skills

Essential criteria
  • Competence in spoken and written English
  • Advanced understanding of Clinical Governance and Quality Improvement
  • Good presentation and communication skills
  • Leadership Qualities; enthusiastic, flexible, able to adapt to change and to lead service development
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of previous relevant experience to make significant developments and contributions to established services with demonstrable output
