Main duties of the job
We are excited to advertise a 12 month fixed term maternity cover in the Microbiology laboratory at Southampton General Hospital.
The role would be working core hours, Monday-Friday 09:00-17:30.
We are looking for a specialist BMS with extensive knowledge in all aspects of Bacteriology.
The laboratory provides a full clinical diagnostic service including parasitology, mycology, an extensive AST section, and provides TB testing for several hospitals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

- IBMS Specialist diploma in Medical Microbiology required or equivalent experience in a clinical diagnostic lab
- Extensive post-registration experience
- Support the day to day running of the section and a point for enquiries from junior staff
- Strong training experience of staff a wide range of grades
- Strong understanding of Quality Control testing
- Demonstrates inclusivity and accommodates and supports colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
- HCPC registered
- Evidence of current CPD activities
- Significant previous experience in a medical laboratory
- IBMS specialist portfolio (in relevant discipline) or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- IT competency (hospital IT systems, Outlook, Microsoft)
- Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory
