Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

B6 Physiotherapist in Cystic Fibrosis

Are you looking for a new challenge? Would you like to specialise in Cystic Fibrosis and work within a highly respected and established team, whist ensuring you get appropriate training, support and education? Then this band 6 post is for you!

This post includes inpatient, outpatient and community work, travelling to patients’ homes in a wide regional area.

Following service changes, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic B6 Physiotherapist to join our adult Cystic Fibrosis team, at University Hospital Southampton. The Wessex Adult Cystic Fibrosis service at Southampton cares for approximately 300 adults with CF.

Southampton is a vibrant city, close to beautiful coastline, the New Forest and is within easy reach of London. There is a skilled and dedicated multidisciplinary team with a commitment to delivering high quality care.

We run a 7-day therapy service so weekend working and bank holiday cover, on a roster basis, will be expected as part of your working hours. This role also includes acute respiratory on-call shifts.

Working for our organisation

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to.

All non-clinical roles may involve a mixture of on site and remote working, Specific details and flexible working options can be discussed as part of the interview process. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you need, and we will explore what’s possible for the role and service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are looking for a dynamic Physiotherapist to assist with strategic development of the therapy service for Wessex regional adult Cystic Fibrosis. This post offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to develop clinical and managerial skills within this speciality and oversee the development of others.

This post holder, along with existing staff, will be based within Southampton General Hospital, however, will also be required to work off site undertaking admission prevention, individual support within patients’ homes, or nearer a patient’s geographical locality. Please ensure you would be able to undertake the community aspects of the work, as you need to be able to travel to and from patient homes, and other hospital sites as part of this role, as well as transport large pieces of equipment.

The successful applicant should have relevant postgraduate respiratory/Cystic Fibrosis clinical experience, with a desire to develop their knowledge and skills further. Support will be given towards continual learning and professional development.

This role involves working closely with our regional multi-professional Cystic Fibrosis (CF) team and is supported by a Clinical Specialist in Cystic Fibrosis. Your clinical remit would involve the treatment of both acute inpatients and outpatients attending our multi-professional Cystic fibrosis clinics and working in the community. Attendance at regional meetings may also be required.

The post holder will be expected to engage in research as appropriate, as well as regular clinical audits, and maintain skills and knowledge to implement evidence-based practice. The role will require teaching undergraduate students, as well as providing specialist advice to colleagues.
