Main duties of the job

The recruitment team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our team within here within Southampton Children's Hospital.

We are looking for someone with fantastic communication skills and an eye for problem-solving to join our Bed Management team. 

This is a fast-paced role integral to supporting the operational delivery of both elective and emergency pathways for patients requiring the children's hospital services. You will also manage the bed availability across the Children's Hospital.

We are looking for someone who can be flexible and work over a 4-week shift pattern. The Child Health bed managers currently provide a 7-day service covering the hours of 07:00-20:00

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key responsibilities Responsibilities

. Co-ordinate all admissions and transfers for the children's hospital between UHS and referring DGHs

. Maintain an effective system for identifying the availability of beds to ensure that fluctuations in demand, clinical priorities and emergency admissions are dealt with effectively and efficiently

. Attend the daily site coordinator bed management meetings and other meetings as required

.To manage effectively and efficiently the use of beds within the Neurosciences Care Group

What experience/skills are needed? 

You will need to have excellent administrative and organisational skills
Prior NHS knowledge

The confident approach in communication with multidisciplinary teams 
The ability to work independently and problem-solve

We are currently looking for the below shift pattern
Week 1- Wednesday & Friday.
Week 2- Saturday & Sunday
Week 3- Tuesday & Wednesday
Week 4- Tuesday & Wednesday.

Person specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths minimum grade C, or equivalent qualification
  • Educated to vocational level 3 or an equivalent qualification level or relevant work based experience / training, plus detailed knowledge of secretarial and administrative procedures and systems in order to resolve many non-routine issues.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and organisational policies / procedures in order to resolve problems or to develop and/or refine procedures.
  • Working knowledge of MS word/excel
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of continuing personal/professional development
  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience

Previous or relevant experience necessary
