Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for a project manager to join our Imaging Infrastructure Support Service (IISS) a managed service at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).  The primary focus will be responsibility for oversight and delivery of projects related to the IISS programme working in close collaboration within a multidisciplinary team including estates, external agencies,  the IISS Programme Manager and our managed service provider. 

The IISS team have a diverse portfolio, from imaging department redesign to equipment selection and installation, as well as the day-to-day management of project progress. You will need a high degree of motivational skill be methodical and organised with proven project management skills and an understanding of the operational impact of delivering a range of projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

 You will:
•    Bring robust project management skills to the process keeping team members focused on delivery, identifying and escalating problem areas as they aris.
•    Proactively plan and implement IISS projects in conjunction with and supporting the IISS Programme Manager.  The post holder will be responsible for leading and co-ordinating various small projects involving imaging department redesign, equipment installation and also supporting strategic project delivery.  
•    Be a point of contact in relation to IISS project support, liaison and administration, establishing working groups to validate priorities, design solutions and driving implementation within the wider UHS team. 
•    Interact with both Trust and the Managed Service Provider, close colleagues, including contractors carrying out regular accompanied planned and unaccompanied ad-hoc site inspections and check appraise and comment to the programme lead on rate of progress, standard of workmanship, compliance with specification and contractor administration.
•    Analyse complex, sensitive and conflicting information and datasets. Provide updates to key stakeholders on project progress and deliver written progress reports where required.
•    Promote and support the inclusion of patient experience and involvement of service users and their representatives in developing project proposals and implementation.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • HNC/Degree or equivalent examined qualification in a Building Services, Building or related field. and Project Management Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Design knowledge /experience or must be prepared to train in this field
  • Experience in CAD Packages
  • Extensive experience of Building Services maintenance, building maintenance and/or design and minor installation works in construction industry or Healthcare
  • Considerable previous experience in the engineering and/or building construction industry including site supervision of contractors, working to complex programmes and delivery schedules
  • Good written and verbal communication, especially on technical matters as these will be communicated to non-technical staff, and may have an impact on their aspirations
  • Must have a strong focus on quality, safety, and customer service
  • Must be capable of negotiating with and presenting to, line professionals within and outside the NHS
  • Very good interpersonal skills – must be able to influence others in order to achieve results. Negotiate and agree project proposals
  • Translate raw data/information into concise reports with prioritised recommendations. To avoid conflicts of interest
  • Sound knowledge of regulations, statutory requirements and standards, appropriate in the built environment
  • Must have; or obtain within 6-months: • A current driving license • Project Management Experience • AP Certification as required for the position and to meet the Trusts needs. This could require a multiple number of AP appointments • Confined Spaces AP Certificate
  • Good Financial control and ability to authorise payments to contractors, suppliers and consultants
Desirable criteria
  • NEEBOSH General Certificate
  • Relevant CPD
  • Membership of a recognised professional organisation
  • Knowledge of Building Regs and understanding of statutory and legal processes in respect to site developments or acquire training within agreed period of time
  • Knowledge of HBN/HTM, asbestos regulations and Approved Codes of Practice etc
  • Experience of managing directly employed labour and contractors in the delivery of (a) carrying out minor projects (b)a reactive maintenance provision, (c) a planned maintenance provision, or (d) a combined service provision
  • Project Management experience
  • OJUE and Tendering Processes experience
  • Project Management Qualification
  • Institute of Leadership and Management qualification (or equivalent)
  • Preparation of briefs for Clients and pricing by contractors
  • Should be able to handle consultants and contractors in an assertive manner
