Job overview

An opportunity has arisen within the Neonatal Unit for a nursery nurse to join our team. We are a local neonatal unit of 14 cots, 2 intensive care 2 high dependency and 10 special care and a 4 bedded transitional care unit,  caring for mothers and small babies together.

If you are an enthusiastic and highly motivated nursery nurse who wants to deliver high quality family centered care this opportunity is for you.

You will be currently practicing as a nursery nurse, have completed a NVQ level 3 in childcare and have excellent standards of nursing practice. Opportunities to develop your neonatal skills as well as further education and training are actively supported.

The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible in the area they work on work days, nights and weekends. Part time hours will be considered.

Main duties of the job

 To work within NNU as part of the multidisciplinary team, promoting the unit philosophy of family centred care.

 To provide a high standard of nursing care under the supervision of qualified members of the team.

 To work with senior staff to assess patients, plan and implement care and maintain associated records. Ensure effective communication and close working with colleagues within the hospital, parents, carers and patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Manage a group of patients under the supervision of a trained nurse, providing evidence based care. Work with supervision and as part of a team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care to children in the hospital setting.

Manage time and workload effectively to promote smooth running of the service.

Responsible for adherence to Trust policies and procedures.

 Develop and maintain clinical skills under supervision according to individual objectives and service needs e.g. Special care of the Neonate and High Dependency Care, nasogastric tube feeding, feeding management,  oxygen therapy, nasogastric tube feeding, feeding management,  oxygen therapy etc in accordance with unit guidelines.

 Utilise and promote therapeutic play as part of care delivery and child development.

Contribute to the development of unit policies and procedures.
Report any Safeguarding concerns to the senior nurse immediately Support mothers with breast, artificial and nasogastric tube feeding, in line with Trust Policies and BFI recommendations.
