Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trauma and Orthopaedic Therapy Department at Basingstoke Hospital for a Band 4 Therapy Practitioner.

We are looking for somebody who will be able to fulfil the following:  

  • Able to participate in seven day working pattern
  • Team player
  • To build rapport with patients, relatives and staff members
  • To be a dynamic member of the team
  • Keen to develop self and others within the department 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring therapy referrals are timely and appropriate
  • Ensuring patients with complex needs are escalated to qualified therapy staff
  • Collating relevant patient specific information
  • Carrying out basic assessments
  • Delivering therapy interventions and progressing patients with non-complex needs
  • Liaising closely with therapists, ward staff, patients, and their families
  • Support the ward team in achieving a basic knowledge and level of competence in rehab, through supervision and teaching
  • Ordering equipment when indicated
  • Participating as a member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting with the specified duties, taking responsibility for planning his/her own work duties and caseload.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Key stage 2 english
  • Key stage 2 numeracy
  • Evidence of having attained or of working towards a recognised qualification (NVQ 3 level) to enable implementation of prescribed rehabilitation programmes for a range of conditions- eg foundation degree, NVQ relevant competency framework. Or gained through relevant experience.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working as a band 3 therapy assistant
  • Previous experience working within an acute hospital setting
Desirable criteria
  • Orthopaedic experience
  • Experience of supervising team members

Skills and Ability

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates good time management
  • Evidence of ability to use own initiative
  • Evidence of good communication skills
  • Evidence of team working
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to drive manual car
