Job overview

We are looking for  hard working and pro active Health Care Assistants to join our team working in Day Surgery in Andover Hospital. We have 3 Operating Theatres, 2 recovery rooms and a discharge lounge covering a range of specialities including  ENT,  Ophthalmology and Endoscopy.

Our unit is part of the Andover Community Diagnostic Centre and it has been through exciting refurbishments to house more endoscopy activity.

As a HCA working within our unit, you will support the team during operating procedures as well as recovery, scopes decontamination and reception. You will be playing a crucial role in the efficient turn around of Theatres to maximise utilisation and also, be able to positively contribute to a better patient's experience by helping caring for them in all different areas.

Main duties of the job

To work with supervision and guidance in providing and maintaining a high standard of patient care for those patients undergoing surgery.

The post holders will be expected to undertake Peri-operative circulating duties as the need arises and work as part of a multi-professional team.

The post holders will also be required to receive patients into the department, escort them to the anaesthetic room/theatre, providing comfort and support whilst maintaining respect, privacy and dignity and confidentiality.

The post holders will also undertake training to become competent at various tasks in the Endoscopy theatre, including scopes decontamination and tracking.

The post holders, whilst supporting recovery room, will be able to check patient's observations, offer refreshments. There are opportunities for development, including training to perform 12 lead ECG, venepuncture.

Provide support to reception staff when required, by answering phones, prepare intra-operative packs, greet patients, log arrivals/discharges on online systems, stock stationery, collect notes from Medical Records, send outcomes to relevant teams

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE qualifications or equivalent
  • Math and English GCSE or functional skills maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2/3 in health and social care or working towards
  • Basic IT skills

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a costumer/public facing role
Desirable criteria
  • Direct patient care skills/experience as an HCA in acute health care setting
  • Previous experience working in Theatres
  • Previous experience in specialities ENT, Ophthalmology, Endoscopy
  • Previous scopes decontamination
