Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and motivated team player with excellent communication skills.

 

Involved in providing care, which requires the application of sound ethical and professional principles in a more complex physical, social or intellectual context.

 

Demonstrates a professional clinical approach, including participation in appraisal, peer review, clinical audit and continuing professional development activities.

 

Has sufficient knowledge, confidence and experience to appraise others or lead peer review, clinical audit or CPD activities.

 

Has sufficient knowledge, confidence and experience to deal professionally with issues of poor or underperformance in colleagues, students and other members of the dental team.

 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist care in an identified clinical discipline to patients in priority groups in accordance with Welsh Health Circular WHC(2022)022.

To perform other duties as specified to meet the needs of the service.

To organise and oversee the provision of dental care for patients requiring specialist dental care appropriate to the post-holder’s specialty.

To develop and maintain services designed to identify patients requiring treatment within the specialty. 

To lead in an identified specialist field within the service as required. 

To provide training and/or supervision associated with specialist and allied clinical disciplines to a range of staff.

To provide a range of dental treatment for priority groups and patients referred to the CDS according to Health Board/Directorate policy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the General Dental Council
  • Bachelor in Dental Surgery or equivalent
  • Registration on GDC Specialist List relevant to post
  • Proven maintenance of post-graduate continuing professional development
  • Documented evidence of Safeguarding Training (Child and Adult)
  • Documented training in ILS and PLS within the last 12 months
  • Radiation Protection/IRMER certification
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification relating to a specific clinical skill
  • Membership of a professional organisation/learned society relating to the clinical specialist/specialised area of work
  • Clinical education/teaching qualification
  • Management qualification
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in CDS and/or HDS
  • Experience in pain and anxiety control as appropriate to speciality area including provision of conscious sedation
  • Provision of comprehensive dental care under GA
  • Experience with all groups of patients with special clinical needs
  • Proven track record in specialty area
  • Experience in Risk Management
  • Committee experience
  • • Experience of teaching, training, supervising and mentoring junior staff, trainees and/or undergraduate dental students
  • Producing reports and/or papers
  • Clinical audit/Peer review
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in other dental discipline(s)
