We are looking to recruit two Band 5 Accredited Clinical Coders/Team Leads who are self-motivated and competent in accurately coding multiple complex specialties. As well as understanding the need for high quality coded data to support healthcare planning, reimbursement, management of services, statistical analysis, and research.

Applications are welcome from aspiring coders who are ready for new challenges, with a proven track record of consistently achieving their key performance objectives and producing high quality work to tight deadlines.
The successful applicants will also act as a mentor to Coders and Apprentices within the department.  

This is a full-time position (37.5 hours) based at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with opportunity for hybrid working and flexibility with working times to support our employees with a healthy work-life balance. Such arrangements will be discussed at interview.

The Accredited/Clinical Coding Team Lead, will be responsible for ensuring that accurate, timely, complete, and consistent clinical coding is carried out within strict timescales for the Trust. Using  ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications, and adhering to the national coding standards and local clinical coding policies of the Trust. 

You will be required to collect, collate, and code clinical information, occasionally highly complex in nature, covering a wide range of specialties. This may involve coding highly sensitive and emotionally distressing patient medical records.

Our Clinical Coding Team support the Trust by enabling the planning and provision of high-quality patient care by coding patient’s treatment accurately and efficiently. The team record information about every inpatient and day case who visits the Trust, investigating all aspects of their journey from start to finish. Our coding is all recorded via the simple code system on Trak care to allow these records to be understood throughout the NHS and used to plan for future patient care. The Team strives to provide a timely high-quality data service for the Trust.

You will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

• Ensuring accurate, timely, complete, and consistent clinical coding is carried out within strict timescales, using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications, and adhering to the national coding standards and local clinical coding policies of the Trust.

• Collect, collate, and code clinical information, highly complex in nature, covering a wide range of specialties. This may involve coding highly sensitive and emotionally distressing patient medical records.

• Maintaining own productivity by ensuring high quality work is done by required timescales.

• Liaise with their line manager where necessary to confirm appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes where national guidance is unclear.

• Regularly liaise with and update the managers and senior colleagues regarding deficiencies and ambiguity in clinical documentation to facilitate discussions with the clinical teams and other departments to improve the clinical documentation provided for coding purposes.

• Raise data quality issues to the Coding Mangers.
 
• Act as a mentor to Coders and Trainees/Apprentices within the department. 
 
• Attend and participate in team meetings to ensure knowledge and learning points are received and communicate
