Job overview

We are looking for a Band 7 Practitioner Psychologist to join the Chronic Pain Service. 0.7wte (26.25 hours per week). 

We have an exciting opportunity for a psychologist to join our forward thinking multidisciplinary pain service, The posts also sits within the Gloucestershire Clinical Health Psychology Department, which is welcoming a new Head of Department in September. This is a great time to join us.

We are looking for someone with interest and skills in delivering a psychology service to adults with pain, or relevant experience that they can bring to the role. Psychological skills are highly valued across the whole service and our psychologist work closely with our colleagues in the MDT to support them to deliver psychologically informed care.

We welcome people from different clinical backgrounds, such as mental health or substance abuse.

This post is temporary for 6 months. The interviews have been scheduled for Friday 27th September.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the provision and development of psychological care for adults with chronic benign pain. Our service spans Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

Key roles are:

- Assessment of adults with chronic pain.

- Delivery of psychological interventions. Our service uses CBT, Mindfulness and ACT

- 1:1 clinics, groups, and working jointly with other MDT members

- Clinical supervision and training

Audit and research projects as part of service development.

We have a strong team of 8 Consultants, 4 Psychologists, 3 Physios, 3 Nurses and fantastic support from admin. We are a fun, friendly and supportive bunch to work with. We have good relationships across all the professions and a shared vision for the service.

Psychological skills, including CBT, ACT and Mindfulness are highly valued and seen as a vital component of what the service offers.

Clinical supervision and personal development is available to everyone in the team and there is funding available to support relevant training.

Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Doctoral level Practitioner Psychologist qualification
  • HCPC registration
  • Evidence of regular CPD
  • Experience working in the NHS
  • Able to work well within a team, to foster psychological safety and a climate of care, compassion and learning
  • Ability to contain and work therapeutically with people in extreme psychological distress
  • Proficient use of standard IT systems for clinical work , training, and research purposes including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, zoom, teams
  • Experience of providing advice, consultation and clinical supervision to other healthcare professionals regarding psychological aspects of care.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships, respecting and valuing the contributions made by others and acting in an inclusive, considerate and helpful manner at all times
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Physical Health in an NHS setting
