Job overview
The team have a locum post working exclusively within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology service at Gloucestershire Hospitals Trusts.
Any candidate who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full time will still be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content can be discussed on a personal basis. Job share applicants are also welcome.
The post-holder will help provide specialist Obstetric services. They will provide on call support overnight, and on weekends, together with appropriate teaching and supervision of junior doctors and medical students. They will be expected to work closely with general practitioners, midwifery colleagues, allied health professionals, obstetric, anaesthetic and neonatal staff to provide a seamless service and deliver high quality outcomes within national targets.
Main duties of the job
Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:-
- To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
- To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
- To sustain and develop teaching and research wherever appropriate
- To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust’s procedures and operating policies
- To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust’s and Division’s services plans
- To maintain the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Women and Children Division or the Trust
Clinical responsibilities
- The appointee will be expected to share responsibility for the delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Department
- To examine and treat patients within the Department as required by clinical demand
- To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff
- To provide on call support out of hours. To attend the Department out of hours as per agreed protocols
- To remain contactable and available when on call / on duty
- To carry out regular ward rounds in a timely fashion

The Women & Children's Division are well established and are focused on continued service improvement.
The teams are based at Gloucester Royal Hospital with outpatient activity taking place and at Cheltenham General and Gloucester Royal hospitals.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC registration
- MBBS or equivalent
- MRCOG
- ATSM in advanced labour ward practice
Desirable criteria
- Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to specialty
- ATSM in hysteroscopy
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Clinical training and experience in Obstetrics equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Demonstrate ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary team
- Ability to lead emergency obstetric services in and out of hours
Desirable criteria
- Experience at Consultant level

- Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships.
- Enthusiasm for teaching and training of the multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to provide a role model and to inspire and develop junior medical, midwifery and nursing staff.

- To attend outlying hospitals as required and ability to fulfil travelling requirements associated with the post
