Job overview

We are looking for a friendly, enthusiastic and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join us in ENT Outpatients. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure a good standard of care for our patients. We look after a variety of patients, including those with a range of head and neck conditions. You will have the opportunity to work with various members of our multidisciplinary team, including Nurses, clinicians, CNS team, speech and language therapists and dieticians to provide treatment to individuals. 

This job will require you to work across both our Gloucestershire Royal site and our Cheltenham General site. 

We work Monday - Friday 8am - 6pm. We offer various different shift patterns to make sure that clinics are staffed appropriately throughout the week. 

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Assistant in ENT Outpatients, you will be expected to work as part of the clinical team, working towards ensuring the best care for everyone. We work in a busy department so you will need to be flexible, adaptable and have a willingness to learn. 

You will need to ensure that clinic rooms are prepared before a clinic starts and after it finishes, as well as ensuring that all equipment is cleaned and ready to use, acording to trust guidelines. You will be need to be able to take observations of patients, and assist them with any pre-operative screening that's necessary. You will also have the opportunity to assist in ultrasound clinics, participate in carrying out smells testing and you will receieve training to be able to participate in our minor - ops clinics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant in the ENT Outpatient department, you will be expected to: 

Work both autonomously and as part of a team to ensure the smooth running and service delivery within the department. 

Work alongside Nurses, Doctors, Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure our patients' recieve high standards of care. 

Be able to navigate our IT systems, both TrakCare and EPR. 

Ensure that equipment is cleaned appropriately, according to Trust guidelines.

Demonstrate good verbal and non-verbal communication skills, especially as some of our patients will have communication difficulties.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy or equivalent ie. GCSE Maths & English
Desirable criteria
  • Care certificate or equivalent

Experience

  • 6 months experience in a Healthcare setting

Knowledge / Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of basic Nursing care
