Permanent position, 30 hours a week
An exciting opportunity exists for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care to gain experience working in a community setting (0.8 WTE). The post holder will work predominantly in the community setting with flexibility to work within the whole of the Specialist Palliative Care service as is required.
The post holder will have substantial years post registration experience, to include either palliative, cancer or non-cancer long term condition nursing. We will consider all transferable skills, but an ability to demonstrate a full holistic assessment and understanding of the principles of symptom control is key to this position

We are looking for highly motivated nurses with excellent communication skills to provide advice and support to patients, their families and health care professionals.
You will need to demonstrate an understanding of specialist palliative care and the context in which such care is delivered within the hospital and community setting. Evidence of ongoing professional development is essential and experience of teaching is desirable.
Access to own car and driving license is essential to the role.

The specialist palliative care service is predominately led by a team of clinical nurse specialists, with oversight and support from specialist palliative medical consultants and other AHP’s.
We have strong working relationships with colleagues in primary care, including district nursing, GP’s and our neighbouring hospices.

To work effectively as an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary palliative care team promoting and maintaining quality of life for patients with cancer or other life threatening illnesses requiring palliative care and into bereavement for relatives and carers.
To provide specialist clinical leadership in the assessment of complex symptom and psychological problems, provide support, advice and leadership to health care professionals in line with national and local guidelines and ensure a cohesive, holistic and evidence based approach to the management of palliative patients.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

- RGN with substantial years post registration.
- Educated to degree level in nursing practice, working at advanced practice level.
- Experience and knowledge of symptom management.
- Enhanced communication and interpersonal skills, with well developed negotiation, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of the team and is authorised to prescribe a treatment plan without a doctors verification
- Access to own car and driving license is essential to the role.
