Specialist Perinatal Senior Mental Health Practitioner

Band 6

Job overview

**1 x Fixed Term contract/secondment opportunity for up to 12 months**

*Internal applicants who wish to be considered for a secondment opportunity should discuss with their line manager the suitability of a possible secondment*

The Gloucestershire Perinatal Community Mental Health Team currently provides mental health support and services for women and their families during pregnancy and up to 2 years after birth.

Due to maternity leave within the team a fixed term/secondment up to 12 months (to end on July 2025) opportunity has become available.

The successful post holder will be an integral part of the service providing specialist assessment, support and treatment for women and their families in the perinatal period and be a vital link to a wide range of services that support women and their families with mental health issues.

The team prioritises women with serious and complex mental health needs including those who have experienced serious mental health episodes in the past and are currently well. We also provide specialist consultation, training and advice to a range of mental health, maternity and primary health services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a registered clinician with a special interest in improving care for women and their families. Experience of working in the Perinatal Mental Health field is desirable; a keen interest in this specialist area is essential.

All applicants must have excellent clinical skills and a good level of post registration experience, proven ability to complete comprehensive mental state examinations, thoroughly assess risk, and document and communicate these clearly and concisely.

Working for our organisation

We have in excess of 5000 staff working over 50 sites, providing a diverse range of services. We strive to support an organisational culture that is welcoming, builds and celebrates inclusivity and diversity and provides a sense of belonging and trust.

The annual NHS Staff Survey gives our people the opportunity to tell us about their experience working at the Trust.  For the 2023 survey just over 2800 colleagues gave us their views (58.5%).   It was great to see from the results that colleagues are saying that:

  • 89.7% believe they are making a positive difference to patients/service users;
  • 73.3% would recommend the organisation as a place to work;
  • 82.4% agree that care of patients and service users is the organisations priority;
  • 76.7% would be happy with the standard of care for a friend or relative

Our results put us as 5th nationally as a Community, Mental Health and Learning Disabilities NHS Employer of Choice and 1st equal amongst all NHS Provider Trusts in the South West. However, we know we have more to do and will continue to drive forward our commitment to making GHC a Great Place to Work.
