Applications are invited for the post of Urology Surgery Trust Grade Doctor (ST1/2 level or above) based at Cheltenham General Hospital
The post holder will have a 11 month post (extendable) in the Urology department which will give them opportunity to train in Urology. In addition you will be involved in Outpatient Clinics, routine ward rounds and operating lists, you will also be supporting with the Urology on call rota. We have a teaching lead within the Division you will be expected to be involved in several research projects and actively participate in teaching and monthly audit.

Main duties of the job
The purpose of the job is to support a busy outpatient, day case urology facility and Ward at Cheltenham General . The appointee will work in a friendly department with thirteen consultants, seven registrars, three foundation year trainee, group of motivated nurse specialists (cancer), administrative team (pathway coordinators, managers, multi-disciplinary team) and members of the allied emergency, medical and surgical teams.
The main responsibilities will include general care of the urology patient on the ward and admissions via emergency department or elective day cases. The post holder will help supervise the F1s, support with the Urology on-call, run outpatient clinics under supervision, and attend Urology Theatres. There is a good opportunity to develop interest and learn about Urology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post-holder will be expected to participate fully in the clinical work of the department, providing high standards of care for both in-patients and outpatients.
The responsibility of the hand-over, ward round, in-patient care and clerking of the emergency patients with the support of the on-call registrar and the help of the foundation year trainee, will be the prime job. Safe hand-over of the patients admitted over night or staying over the weekend will be the post-holders responsibility. This will be shared with the foundation year trainee.
The specialty doctor will be expected to help in outpatient activity - although no assigned clinic will be given but after completion of the inpatient activity the SHO will need to part-take in the clinical activity.
Involvement in the running of the weekly MDT is expected and this job offers learning opportunities as the surgical dept holds weekly teaching sessions and the hospital has weekly teaching sessions for the FY2 doctors.
In addition, the post holders will be expected to play a full part in clinical governance activity. Currently there is a monthly Trust-wide Urology Governance meeting and there are monthly audit meetings.
There will also be administrative duties for the post holder as well as a supervisory responsibility for the junior members of the team.
