Advanced Clinical Fellow Gastroenterology (ST6-8)/post CCST)

NHS Medical & Dental: Senior Clinical Fellow

Join us at an exciting time for Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust! We have an ambitious plan for our journey to Outstanding and are looking for aspirational, committed individuals to join us, making a real difference to both staff and patients.

As a former winner of England for excellence award: Tourism destination of the year, the beautiful city of Gloucester and the scenic regency spa town of Cheltenham are fantastic places to work and live.

As a hospital Trust we are currently involved in over 100 clinical trials and studies, whilst also providing acute elective and specialist services to a population of over 620,000.

By joining Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust new colleagues can look forward to a warm welcome and a future full of opportunities and support.

Job overview

I am delighted you are interested in joining us as an Advanced Fellow (ST6-8) / post CCST in Gastroenterology at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.  Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was commissioned as one of the Regional Endoscopy Training Centres (Director Dr John Anderson, Deputy Director Dr Paul Dunckley). Regular training courses are held on both hospital sites and details can be found at the website JETS - Gloucestershire Endoscopy Training Centre Home. The training faculty is supported by the local consultants who are encouraged to develop their teaching and training skills.

Main duties of the job

This post is aimed at senior Gastroenterology trainees or CCT holders (or equivalent) and provides an opportunity to develop advanced endoscopic techniques and endoscopy training skills. The post also provides the opportunity for the development of other areas of interest in Gastroenterology such as specialist IBD clinics, specialist hepatology clinics, capsule endoscopy and endoscopy research.

This is a second endoscopy fellow position and the structure of the post is based on the successful existing fellow post. The post consists of 50% service endoscopy and 50% training and development in advanced endoscopy and others aspects of gastroenterology that will be tailored to the successful candidate.

Working for our organisation

We are a large organisation providing acute services from Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester and Cheltenham General Hospital to a population of 652,475* in Gloucestershire as well as caring for patients from surrounding counties and beyond.

Our workforce is almost 8,000 strong and our caring and dedicated staffs are recognised as providing good and outstanding patient-centred, high quality emergency, elective and specialist care across a range of clinical areas.

We are committed to recruiting the best people to work with us to achieve our Vision of providing Best Care for Everyone and our success depends on the commitment and dedication of our staff, many of whom are world leaders in healthcare, teaching and research.  You could make a real difference to our patients’ lives by joining our team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants will only be considered if they are able to perform independent colonoscopy (including level 2 polypectomy) and have JAG certification (or equivalent) for upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital have strong reputations for performing high quality endoscopy and endoscopy training. There are many opportunities for the successful applicant to further their endoscopic and training skills. We are not able to offer ERCP or EUS training as part of the Clinical Fellow post.

This post is an ideal platform for trainees reaching the end of their training and wanting to develop their endoscopic, gastroenterology and research skills in preparation for applying for consultant posts.
