We are seeking dynamic, clinically excellent individuals who enjoy taking the lead and ensuring that standards are continually maintained and improved within the clinical environment. You will need to be a highly motivated, skilled individual who displays enthusiasm, dedication and demonstrates the ability to work well in a diverse team.
You must be a first level nurse with appropriate experience in the Endoscopy unit. You will need to be able to manage the patient flow, should have experience of leading a team, and assist with health and safety within the unit as well as supervising and developing staff.
You should be able to demonstrate at interview past project/change management experience showing that you have the ability to initiate, manage and support change.
The units are committed to training, regularly running and supporting JETS and ERCP courses. Our internationally renowned consultants work collaboratively with the nurses to provide an excellent service.
We offer direct support from the Senior Sisters, professional development and lifelong learning study courses appropriate to the role. We are committed to further development of all our staff. You will also have the opportunity to work cross site.

- To manage and professionally lead the nursing team in the clinical area in the absence of the senior sister and as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- To deliver and supervise patient care for the clinical area ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of nursing care.
- To manage caseload of patients within defined clinical area.
- To organise own time and that of qualified junior staff, unqualified staff and students.
- To support the senior members of staff in the management and supervision of the defined clinical area.
- To participate in the 24 hrs emergency on call Endoscopy rota (cross county).

The JAG accredited Endoscopy Units at Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital are busy nurse-led units that serve as both a Regional Endoscopy Training Centre, National Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, and South West Endoscopy Training Academy. In addition to this, the unit encompasses a purpose built endoscope decontamination area. The unit handles emergency procedures as well as caring for routine inpatients/outpatients. In addition to this, the unit also have specialist lists including: ERCP, Peg Insertion, Endoscopic Mucosal Resection, Enteroscopy, Complex Polyp lists, Bronchoscopy, and Thoracoscopy.

- The ability to co-ordinate and lead team in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care with the multidisciplinary team. To do this you should be able to work within all areas of the unit from admissions to decontamination.

- Participate in mentorship and educational programmes for students and other members of the team.
- To adhere to all Trust policies and procedures and professional code of conduct.
- To assist and support the Line Manager in recruitment, retention and performance related issues, including being regularly responsible for the supervision and mentorship for unqualified, qualified staff and students.
- Support the Line Manager for the clinical area in the management of budgetary control and resource management including duty rotas and skill mix requirements.
- To assist and support the Line Manager with Clinical Governance, Health and Safety and Risk Management within Trust policy.
- In accordance with the data protection act assist ward manager in ensuring own and staffs ability to input and retrieve patient and staff information from computer based systems and maintain accurate and contemporaneous patient records.
- To actively support and assist Line Manager with patient/public involvement ensuring it is integrated into service delivery.

- Ability to lead a team and work under pressure whilst effectively managing own and others time in an ever changing challenging environment whilst maintaining excellent standards of care, to include change management.
- Resolving difficult situations and dealing with people’s expectations.
- To assist the Senior Sister to manage staff, patient and public expectations of the service within set national targets and time constraints.
- To assist the Senior Sister to manage both material and human resources within set budgets.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will be required to work within recognised Manual Handling guidelines.
- May be expected to frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg using appropriate aids for short periods of time.
- Will have frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions and will be required to follow Policies and Procedures pertaining to bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH regulations.
- Required to work with chemicals that are known respiratory and skin sensitizers.
- May be required to work in confined spaces and to work standing for up to 10.5 hrs due to the shift pattern.
- Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable, but there is also a requirement for concentration e.g. drug rounds, on call.

- Evidence of teaching and assessing and appropriate qualification
- Demonstrate understanding and implementation of research based practice

- Registered Nurse (Adult) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
Experience
