Locum Consultant
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.
We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.
Job overview
MSE is a new Foundation Trust, made up principally of Broomfield Hospital, Southend Hospital and Basildon Hospital. The Trusts merged in April 2020 with a view to providing joined-up care across Mid & South Essex.
This is an excellent opportunity to work for MSEFT within our Urology Service either at full time (10 PAs) or less than full time, with the opportunity to develop a subspecialty interest to complement the department.
Essex has major road connections to the rest of the country; frequent mainline rail services to and from London, as well as airports at Stansted and Southend just 30 minutes away.
We are advertising for a Consultant Urological Surgeon post at MSE Hospitals with Southend Hospital as the base site with the ability to perform Laser treatment procedures. The Urology department across MSE Hospitals is under a single clinical and management structure. From April 2023, emergency admissions will only be to Southend or Chelmsford sites. Both sites run a 1:10 on call commitment with 24/7 middle grade cover. Our Southend site is also the regional complex Urology cancer centre. Both Chelmsford and Southend sites have da Vinci robots systems.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a consultant urologist confident to carry out general urology duties with additional subspecialty interests to complement the department and experience with stone and laser treatments. Participation in local cancer and endourology MDT meetings will occur weekly. There are opportunities to develop stone surgery, novel BPH treatments, endoscopic management of bladder tumours, including TULA, and advanced diagnostics.
The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in professional medical responsibilities and training of the junior medical staff.
The consultants are the senior members of the Trust’s medical team, and in this role, they have responsibility for providing a complete urology service, as well as training and education to the junior medical and other staff, as required.
Consultant medical staff are expected to be involved with the General Manager and Clinical Director in the compilation, implementation and monitoring of the business plan for the urology service.
