Job overview

Working within the busy radiotherapy department the post holder will be required to provide a welcoming and efficient reception. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, their relatives, colleagues and visitors to the department so must display a calm, friendly, caring and professional manner. They will provide a range of reception duties ensuring that the reception runs smoothly and efficiently.

Main duties of the job

To communicate with patients/relatives and carers in a sensitive and welcome manner.

To deal with telephone queries in a courteous and helpful way.

Direct patients to the correct waiting room within the department giving them assistance if required.

To keep the patients waiting informed and up to date regarding any delays in the department.

Liaise with transport regarding patient bookings and any issues with these.  Deal with any queries that patients may have regarding their hospital transport.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 3 GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths
Desirable criteria
  • Training courses related to administrative duties

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working on reception in a public facing role
  • Experience of working on hospital based computer systems
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting

  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
