Clinical Fellow ST4+ - Emergency Medicine

Clinical Fellow ST4+

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is now one of the largest trusts in the country, serving a population of 1.2 million people comprising acute hospital sites at Broomfield in Chelmsford, Basildon and Southend.

We are a well-led, high-performing and innovative organisation determined to provide the best health care services for our local population and working in the best interests of the people we serve.

Job overview

If you want to be a part of a highly motivated team then we would love to hear from you.

You will be working as part of the ED team to provide urgent and emergency diagnosis and care to all unselected Emergency presentations who arrive either by ambulance or as self-presentations.  This involves working in all areas ie Resus, Majors, Minors, Paediatric and Rapid Assessment areas

All clinicians provide 24 hour cover for the Emergency department as an integrated team, led by the consultants 0800-22:00, and are responsible for ensuring that a high standard of care is provided for all the Emergency Department patients.  Providing 24 hour shop floor cover is an essential part of the commitment.  The successful candidate must show the required clinical skills and experience and must also demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.

With around 100,000 people attending our Emergency department every year, we’re really setting the pace in care. Emergency Medicine has its own clinical director, under whom you will contribute a wealth of fresh ideas and drive innovative practice. The consultant team consists of 9 substantive consultants all dedicated to emergency medicine as their specialty of choice with excellent shop floor presence.

Main duties of the job

Our facilities include a majors area with monitors viewable from the central staffing area, co-located X-ray equipment, departmental ultrasound machine and a fully equipped five-bay resuscitation room with gantry X-ray.

There is a monthly teaching programme in place and you will have an allocated educational and clinical supervisor. Four hours per week on average are allocated for CPD and the department funds the 3  life support courses course fee directly to protect your study budget.

The Emergency Department forms the focus for all unscheduled and unplanned patient attendances to Southend University Hospital and has excellent links with the on call specialties in addition to the adjacent Out of Hours service.

Our Clinical Fellows ST1-8  plus Trainee Junior Doctors provide 24 hour cover for the Emergency department as an integrated team led by the consultants and are responsible for ensuring that a high standard of care is provided for all the Emergency Department patients.  Providing 24 hour shop floor cover is an essential part of the commitment.  The successful candidate must show the required clinical skills and experience and must also demonstrate an ability to work as part of a team.
